Fiddle Leaf Fig - Ficus Lyrata
Fiddles are a plant with personality. They like to be in a well lit area of the house, so be careful not to put them in a dark corner. If you notice your fiddle is reaching towards the light, this will give you an indication of where to place it in your home.
Your fiddle does not like to be bathing in water 24/7. Make sure when you water your plant, it completely drains, and toss away the excess water. You will know when to water it by putting your finger into the soil, if the top few inches are dry, its time for a bath. These guys dont like to be moved around too much, so try your best to pick a spot and stick to it. However, if its not working, then its not working (and move it to a more appropriate place). As these lil guys like tropical environments, you should try to spray the leaves with water every now and then, especially during winter when the heaters are on. This should keep them happy.
Swiss-cheese plant - MONSTERA DELICIOSIA
Before we get into the nitty gritty, you must be aware that if this plant is ingested by your family pet, it will compromise their health. So keep these guys and gals in a place where your cat or dog can't reach.
The monstera likes bright light, and water every few days, or until the top of the soil is dry. They will continue to grow if looked after properly. In fact, these lil guys will keep on growing according to the size of the pot. They are very easy to propagate, so if you want to trim them back, don't forget to keep the clippings!
Rubber Tree - Ficus elastica
The rubber tree is a sturdy plant that will reach great heights with little attention. Make sure it is not left in a spot with direct sunlight. This will destroy them. These guys like water, but they definitely don't like to be bathing in it. So when you water your friend, make sure you check the basin after 30minutes. If there is still water sitting there, toss it away.
Just like their Fiddle Leaf friends, they like to be sprayed with water every now and then. Also, to ensure they are able to breathe, gently wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to get rid of any dust that may have collected over time. Remember that these plants grow quite quickly over the years, so be sure to upgrade the size of your pot as your plant grows. This will keep them nice and happy.
